Europe and India are collaborating to exploit the vast potential of global eScience infrastructures through Grid computing in order to address global challenges such as climate warming and disease.

A series of European initiatives are involved in deploying and operating the European-wide e-Infrastructure. These initiatives cooperate with national programs at European and extra-European level.Eu-IndiaGrid looks forward to support and foster collaboration between researchers from Europe and India in a wide range of scientific areas.

EU-IndiaGrid supports specific user communities in the exploitation of grid infrastructures in areas strategic for EU-Indian collaboration. Applications in four main communities will be developed:Climate Change, High Energy Physics, Biology, Material Science

The official EU-IndiaGrid launch took place at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, 11 January, 2010. Joining the consortium was Dr R Chidabaram, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, Philippe de Taxis du Poet, European Union - Delegation of the European Commission to India, Bhutan and Nepal; and Professor Surendra Prasad, IIT Director
